Outcomes of this Module

I was really interested in doing level 6 communication media I would have to prefer this one than compare to the level 5 communication which personal had really dull assignments that didn't really related to the course but with the level 6 it a lot more about the media for example i'm doing my blogs on this when ever i am in the country or out i can always access my work and view new updates on are lecturer site that give me and the class a helping guidance on how to get the highest mark in my assignments for this course.

there is so much media in this module to do the Mise En Scene on the any movie of are choice and do a review on the film which personally was one of my favorite assignment i would have to watch the movie take notes talk about everything in  it that i find interesting

After completing this module I have a completely different way of thinking about media in areas of advertisement, having a better understanding on movies and writing skills on reviews by studying media theory and researching.

Media theory- Propp

Media theory
Propp

This was a Russian critic back in 1928 who identified  32 categories of action and over 30 different characters types that is a specific function.

the example I picked to talk about the this theory is a well known war movie called Saving Private Ryan.

1. The hero

The hero in this film is Captain John H. Miller which has to led his squad on the beaches of Normandy and getting soldiers to move

2. The villain

The villain in this movie is obviously the Nazis who are fight back against the Allies making an invasion into the west side of Europe

4. The helper

This would be the squad itself but of all of them the Technical Sergeant Michael Horvath would have help out the hero more by giving him advice about the battle the have

5.The heroine

this would be the main part of the story is the hero going found out about a miss soldier who missing in action  and finds him alive as an award for him.

6.The dispatcher

this would be Lieutenant Colonel Walter Anderson who gives the hero the message that he has to find the heroine  that is Private First Class James Francis Ryan, a paratrooper

This is how propp is used in movies.

Media Theory- Branigan Theory

Branigan Theory

Branigan theory was basically that people tend to remember stories in terms of categories.
He also explain that narrative is an "activity that organised data into a special pattern which represents and explains experience"

The story i had picked to do Branigan theory on is the census data that has information about the topics of Society about the country of the UK news on the guardian report on the census data that has information about the topics of Society about the country UK

England and Wales in 'other Religions'

1 Introduction of setting and characters

well this census was asking people what there Religion is and which one is the biggest in England and Wales so you got a mixer of everyone answers on this plus the upside is if people believe in something and vote it as a Religion if the get enough people then the government will recognize it as one.

for picking the characters for people who watch this is much of the nation but really for investors to know how the country is doing and what it's shaping out to be in the future.

2 Explanation of state of affairs

well everyone is looking at the report and looking on how England is changing it's religion to a lot of other things but personally it's good to see the likes of heavy metal been 14th on the list of religions which is ahead  of Scientology which is only in the 20th.

3.initiating event

It requires the public to fill out this form shown people living to give an idea to the government areas of the country that's good and where the bad parts.

5.complicating actions

The down side for this is the christian faith is been crushed a lot seeing this

6.outcome

The outcome of this is showing people what the country is like to the change of the country and what comfort for people to pick there own religion.

7.reactions to the outcome

The reactions of this part on the Census is very positive well for some people maybe not but looking at the results and seen Jedi taking out every other religion is something i have to say is great that people want to believe in something the want and allow it.
On MetalHammer website the talk about it saying

"It’s Official: Heavy Metal Is A Bigger Religion In The UK Than Scientology, Druidism And…Um…Shamanism"

The site has stated that the are happy to be a better religion than the such of Scientology and its got some intention in mainsteram media.

Media in the 21st century (Kids)

Kids influentially towards media in the 21st century

The way media influence kids of the 21st century is getting worse then better i think.

The disadvantages why i think this is cause of kids TV shows, the are full of advertisments every 15 to 20 min which is just basically brainwashing them and making them into spoiled kids if there parnets get them the toy on the advert.
Another big issue is kids playing Xbox or Ps3 instead of being outside playing and being healthy instead of playing violent games which cause numerous of problems for the kid mentally and physical.

The only good thing i can say about the media that it is really good for the kids is the educational media is being used which makes learning for the kids fun and the would have better career opportunities.

If the media can use more like this and instead of using it for just simple profit maybe the could be a better society for many people.

The Medium is the message (Mars Rover)

MARS ROVER

"The Medium is the message"

When NASA landed the Curiosity on Mars it was a big day for the whole world cause this new robot has an up to date technology that's able to take great quality photos and to share it to everyone and most importantly to discover if there any form of life on this little red plant. Cause everyone has this image of this Plant as a dusty red sanded desert (like a scene  in Star wars) but to see an actual image form another plant this is big step for NASA since the moon landing(until people started questioning if the ever did do it) and what makes this one special especially in today's world with technology going faster than a bullet  the rover able upload images every week and have "Mars Curiosity" on twitter so people in NASA talks can talk to any of the public about the mission and what the plan to do. cause we all know that what NASA does it really the government that knows frist and asks what can be said but in this cause the public can trust what happens in this mission and can inspire anyone that it is possible for humans to get out there and explore the future is here and finally answer some very old questions.

Marshall McLuhan talks about  the examples that he would point out in this topic that i'm talking about is that people would have thought different than it was impossible to get to mars but once people can
communicate by NASA showing them images of Mars every few days and be able to have a lab on board the rover to do  test samples which shows to people that we can explore what's out in there more and hope to have a more understanding of space and what lye's out there.

That's what i thought when we mention that "The medium is the message" when talking about the mission on Mars and the public opinion towards it.

Analyzing Media Text

Analysing Headlines
"Anti-Islam film: US condemns Pakistan minister's bounty"

simple headline says it all in 8 words for people to know what it topic is about.once the see "Anti-Islam film"  it means bad  news when it comes to this no one likes to talk about this topic when it comes to this religion over past events such as a danish paper who showing a cartoon of the god Mohammad with a bomb on top of his head which spark huge interest and led to violence in the middle east  which cause a death of 100 deaths and including the bombing of the Danish Embassies in Pakistan and also in Syria

When it comes to the western world that forbid this sort of thing to happen which causes relationship between two powers not good at all.

Analyzing Images

The image below shows a lot of fear in it. The reasons why i say this is cause you see cars burning on a road in the background  and a Muslim running with a sword. by looking at this image the man looks like he going to attack someone which shows a lot of fear to the public how sensitive these issues are for religion
Fact and opinion
.  When it comes to this subject of talking or making anything offensive to the Islamic people the will stand up for there faith and take any action to make sure the people who are involved pay the price while the governments are trying there best to keep the situation under control.

O'Fiaich Open day

O'Fiaich College
Opening day
Patrick Halpenny

Introduction

What was asked of us to do in this assignment was to make a promotional video for the college open day and edited for attracting new student in the future

Planning

What we where asked to do in this assignment was to go around the college in are Film groups and interview people who are part of the courses and the new possible student that may come to the college to do there studies and asked them a few question about there reasons for coming to the open day.

my film group consists of the following and there roles on the open day:

  • Patrick Halpenny- Sound guy
  • Steve O'Hare- Camera guy
  • Aisling Hogan - Interviewer asking question about the College Courses
  • Sanjo Olajubu - asking people to be interviewed nicely

On The day of the opening day we were the first groups of two to go out and film  open day this meant we had an early start easy to find a place to set up and have are area to do are interviews in an sound free area so there would not be any difficulties in doing so for sound spill. This is my role for being the sound engineer to make sure it is easy to hear when people came to talk to us about the open day making sure everything sounds good on my end so editing would become easier if there isn't any noise spill coming the background

The way we will be working on how to record this is look up previous video of opening days in are college and see how the film it and what we thought about them if there was any mistakes in them, what was left out that could be included in this years opening day.
not only check out are own college videos but see online what sort of opening days are out there on YouTube

the other thing we had to do as a group is decide which courses  we're taking and make write up are method of shooting and questions.

The list of questions we had made for any prospective student plans to come here or if it's current students and not forgetting the lecturers themselves to tell us all the facts about the course and the benefits of taking part in this area of studies.

The list of questions we had made up for the opening day were

Questions

Current Student's
  1. what was your reason for picking this course?
  2. are you enjoying the course so far?
  3. what are your expectations when you finish your course in O'Fiaich's

Future Students

  1. why did you decide to come to the opening day?
  2. by coming to the open day to see the course do you think you would like to attend here?
lecturers
  1. can you tell us about the course you doing and whats involved in doing so?

Camera Shots

when doing interviews like these it is usually common to have a close up angle of the person who is been interviewed just showing them with no interviewer and maybe the mic appearing in it depending on which sound mic we're gonna use on the day. Also when asking questions we want the interviewer to quiet when talking so the can fully answer the question the were asked.
